Mechanical Installation

Installation Guide

1

Selecting Installation Location

  • Ensure Full Pipe: Install the flowmeter on a fully filled vertical pipe segment. If installed on a horizontal pipe, avoid areas prone to air bubble accumulation (top of pipe) or sediment deposition (bottom of pipe). Presence of air bubbles may cause large, non-repeatable measurement errors.

  • Install on Fully Developed Flow: Mount the flowmeter on a pipe section with uniform, stable flow. Avoid locations near components that disturb flow, such as pipe reducers, elbows, valves, or pumps.

  • Protect the Main Unit: Do not expose the LCD directly to sunlight. If necessary, add a sunshade. Direct sunlight can reduce readability and shorten LCD lifespan.

Straight Pipe Requirements – 10D / 5D Guideline

To ensure stable and uniform flow for accurate measurement, install the flowmeter away from components that may disturb flow velocity. Follow these guidelines:

  • Upstream (before the flowmeter): Provide a minimum straight pipe length of 10 × pipe diameter (10D). Do not place elbows, tees, valves, reducers, expanders, pump outlets, or any component that may disturb the flow.

  • Downstream (after the flowmeter): Provide a minimum straight pipe length of 5 × pipe diameter (5D) to prevent downstream pressure fluctuations from affecting measurement stability.

  • Installation Direction: Align the flowmeter according to the flow direction arrow on the housing. Ensure it matches the actual flow direction.

Example: Straight Pipe Lengths for DN25 (25 mm Nominal Diameter)
Pipe Diameter (D): 25 mm
Upstream Straight Pipe: 10 × D = 10 × 25 mm = 250 mm (~25 cm)
Downstream Straight Pipe: 5 × D = 5 × 25 mm = 125 mm (~12.5 cm)

Additional Recommendations

  • For sites near pumps, strong pulsations, or multiple upstream/downstream fittings, increase upstream straight pipe to 15–20 × D or use a flow conditioner.

Avoid Installing the Flowmeter Near:

Near Pumps

Near Valves

Near Tees, reducers, or expanders

Near Elbows

Installation Orientation & Flow Direction

Installation Orientation

  • Vertical Pipe: Install the flowmeter on upward flow.

  • Horizontal Pipe: Install at a fully filled section, e.g., the lower side of a sloped pipe or the bottom of a U-shaped pipe.

Probe Orientation

Install the flowmeter on the side, slightly above, or slightly below the pipe. Avoid the top or bottom to prevent interference from bubbles or sediment.

  • Recommended Positions: Side, Slanted Upward, Slanted Downward

  • Avoid: Right Above or Right Beneath

Choose Probe Installation Method (V/Z)

Select the mounting geometry before fixing the bracket — this determines how the two TM-1 transducers are positioned relative to each other, and must be entered later as A27 Wedge Method in Parameter Settings.

V or Z — either works

8"-16"

Z

  • V configuration: both transducers mount on the same side of the pipe. The ultrasonic signal reflects once (a "V"-shaped bounce). Because both transducers are on the same side, probe spacing is easier to measure, and the single reflection gives a balanced signal strength.

  • Z configuration: transducers mount diagonally on opposite sides of the pipe. The signal travels direct and unreflected, which keeps signal strength strong — useful for high-interference fluids (bubbles, impurities, scale buildup). Because the transducers are on opposite sides, measuring probe spacing is more difficult.

  • For 3"–8" pipe, choosing between V and Z: choose Z if both sides of the pipe are reachable and you want maximum signal strength; choose V if only one side is accessible, or for easier installation.

FU-TX320 Installation Steps

1

Fix the Mounting Bracket to the Pipe

Secure the mounting bracket around the pipe at the location chosen above, using the metal straps provided. Confirm the pipe surface is clean and free of rust, flaking paint, or debris that could disrupt the ultrasonic signal.

2

Mount the TM-1 Transducer on the Guided Track Clamp

The TM-1 transducers are labeled red [UP] for upstream and blue [DN] for downstream. Seat both transducers on the guided track at the spacing shown by A29 Probe Spacing (see Parameter Settings), then tighten the fastener screw to fix them in place. Coupling gel is unnecessary for most installations, but may be used if signal strength is weak.

  • V Mounting

Distance between the probes" is measured as the gap between the facing (inner) edges of the two probe housings — not their outer edges, and not center-to-center

  • Z Mounting

Distance between the probes" here is the straight-line distance along the pipe's axis between the two probes' positions — a horizontal measurement, taken along the pipe.

3

Install the Optional PT100 Temperature Sensor

The temperature sensor cable is pre-wired to the display unit at the factory — no field electrical connection is required. Sensors come as a pair — strap one at the upstream position and one at the downstream, and track which is which. Ensure firm, even contact

4

Mount the Display Unit

Screw Mount (Standard)

  1. Hold the enclosure against the wall at the chosen spot, and mark through its mounting holes.

  2. Drill a hole at each mark — use wall anchors if mounting on masonry or drywall.

  3. Position the enclosure back over the holes, and drive a screw through each mounting hole into the wall (or anchor).

  4. Tighten all screws evenly until the enclosure sits flush and doesn't wobble.

DIN rail (optional module)

  1. Attach the DIN rail backplate to the enclosure.

  2. Hook the top of the backplate onto the rail.

  3. Press the bottom until it clips into place.

  4. Tug gently to confirm it's seated.

  5. To remove: pull the release tab while lifting the unit away.

5

Calibrate and Check

With mechanical installation complete and the pipe confirmed full, execute Z03 Auto Initialize to initialize the flowmeter's parameters. Then go back to main screen to confirm the if the reading runs correctly
