探頭的安裝位置應安裝在管路側面，以避免管內氣體蓄積在上方產生空腔影響超音波訊號的收發，若因特殊狀況無法安裝在側邊，則必須確保管內隨時屬於滿管狀態空隙存在於探頭與管壁之間，由於超音波強度在空氣中會大幅衰減因此會嚴重影響訊號強度與品質，因此安裝時必須將耦合劑塗在探頭上與管壁之間，並排除任何氣泡，特別留意避免存在沙子顆粒等雜質，或過後的表面漆刮除。
